Preventing Pedestrian Accidents

Accidents can happen any time of the day. Pedestrian and car accidents are one of the more common accidents simply because people do not pay enough attention to where they are going whether on foot or when behind the wheel. If you choose to walk in a street you have to take caution and watch where you are going or there is a good chance you will get hurt.
As a pedestrian, you should never walk onto highways or restricted zones. The drivers of the vehicles in these areas are not expecting a person to walk out in front of them. Pedestrians should always walk on sidewalks if they are around and make sure to cross on the crosswalks or wherever it is legal and safe to cross a street. Sometimes the situation occurs where there are no sidewalks. In this case walkers should walk facing road traffic. It is never a good idea to cross multiple lanes or high-speed streets without using a crosswalk but if you choose to do so use extreme caution.

You can help avoid a potential pedestrian accident by making sure you are always visible. Always wear bright clothing or if you choose to walk in the dark carry a flashlight. Another good tip is to never trust a driver. Most drivers are good but never trust them 100 percent, as you don't know what is going on in the cars passing you or whether the driver is intoxicated or ill.

If you are walking, always keep an eye out for drivers because anything could happen that the driver may not see you.
