Steps To Take After A Construction Accident

Construction accidents are a relatively common occurrence, with many hazards lurking on the job site. If you are injured in a construction accident, it can be difficult to know where to turn for help with your injuries. It can be confusing trying to figure out what to do after a construction accident. Workers who are injured in any type of construction accident should follow these steps to ensure they are treated fairly:

  • Get medical assistance. Even if your injuries do not appear serious at the time, it is important to have a doctor evaluate your condition.
  • Report the accident and your resulting injuries to your immediate supervisor. Don't assume that your employer is aware the accident occurred; always give him a rundown based on your perception of the situation and an account of your injuries.
  • Collect a list of witnesses - coworkers who saw the accident firsthand and can give an accurate report of what happened. Get names and contact information for future reference. Take pictures of the accident site if possible, as well as your injuries, for possible evidence later on.
  • Identify faulty construction equipment involved in the accident. Take pictures of the particular pieces of equipment if possible. Isolate the equipment for inspection after the accident.
  • Keep a journal of how the accident impacted your ability to perform daily activities or your work responsibilities. Write down the type and severity of pain you experienced, and all medical treatment required for your injuries.
  • Contact an experienced White Plans construction accident attorney if necessary, to pursue compensation for your pain and suffering, medical bills and lost wages. If your employer does not provide fair treatment after the accident, an experienced legal team may be able to help you get the compensation and justice you deserve.
