Cargo securement the focus of annual Roadcheck blitz

New York drivers may be interested to learn that the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has announced that its annual International Roadcheck inspection blitz will take place June 6 through 8. This year, CVSA inspectors will place extra emphasis on cargo securement.

According to the CVSA, cargo securement is a normal part of the organization's Level I vehicle inspections, but its inspectors will be highlighting it as a safety reminder to drivers and fleets. To raise awareness on cargo securement, the CVSA has created a flyer with tips for drivers and fleets to reference ahead of the event. The flyer indicates that top load securement violations include failure to prevent shifting or loss of load, damaged tie-downs, insufficient tie-downs and loose tie-downs.

During the three-day inspection blitz, the organization will conduct thousands of North American Standard Level I inspections. These inspections are the most thorough safety examinations of both commercial drivers and commercial vehicles performed by the CVSA. Last year, it conducted more than 60,000 inspections across North America.

Truck accidents cause thousands of serious injuries throughout the United States every year. In order to recover damages, some accident victims choose to pursue a personal injury lawsuit against the truck driver and/or trucking company responsible for the crash. If the suit is successfully argued in court, an injured victim could receive financial compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, property damage, pain and suffering and other losses related to the crash. Truck accident victims could learn more about their legal options by discussing their case with a personal injury attorney.
